Children's Services
Each child receiving services through Ellisville State School is given an individualized plan of care formulated through information obtained from members of the interdisciplinary team which includes professionals in the areas of medical/nursing, nutrition, psychology, social work, recreation, education, physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy and audiology, as well as, input from parents and family members. Recreation programs and activities are provided to enhance social interaction and develop leisure interests. Religious services are also available for those who wish to partake in church and worship activities.
Under 5 Program
Ellisville State School is the only facility in the Mississippi Department of Mental Health that provides comprehensive services to individuals under the ages of five with intellectual and developmental disabilities for whom residential services are deemed appropriate. Individuals that are found appropriate for placement must be approved by the Mississippi Board of Mental Health. The board makes the final determination with regard to eligibility for services.
Special Education Services
Ellisville State School's Special Education School is accredited by both the Mississippi Department of Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The department serves all individuals who are between the ages of 3 and 21 that reside at Ellisville State School. A comprehensive educational curriculum that promotes functional skills and adaptive behaviors is provided to all students in an effort to increase their independence and self-sufficiency. Educators also assist in referring individuals served by the school to the public school system when possible, in an effort to ensure that all school-age individuals served by Ellisville State School are in their least restrictive educational environment. |
